Remember my earlier blog this season? When Tudbinks sponsored an impatien giveaway because it appeared that there was great fear and trepidation over planting them. Send us an email (info@tudbinks.com) and let us know how your impatiens are doing, because ours have had a great season. How great? Well great enough that in three more weeks it will be time to start thinking about putting in fall material and our beds and planters that have wallerinia have been doing great.
The photo above shows my hand behind a proposed replacement for traditional impatiens… Called Divine… we planted a few and this is how they turned out. Not bad, but compared to our little patio planter on the left, they still have a ways to go. So let us know! How is your impatien garden growing? From this end, from what we’ve seen this year, impatiens will be back on the benches at Tudbinks for 2014.
Good to seethat they will be back for 2014. I did not plant any this year due to the fungal problem. Our house and yard are almost in almost total shade and they were my go to favorite for 17 years! Although I had great success with begonias this year, there is just something about impatiens that keeps me coming back! That being said…every year I have volunteer impatiens from the previous year and this year is no different. Even though I lost every one of my impatiens last year, there are a few little beauties poking their pretty pink heads up and doing quite well!
Hmm, seems like you should have had trouble if anyone should…since the disease overwinters over in the soil and should effect your volunteer impatiens…glad to hear it hasn’t! Thanks for your reply, and be sure to come down and show us your id for a free flat of impatiens in the 2014 season.
I had enough of your free impatiens to plant under my oak tree like I do every year. They were doing great, really filled out nicely until this past week or two. All the flowers have fallen off and the leaves are turning yellow. They don’t look so nice now. Every other year my impatiens have bloomed right up until frost, in fact they were usually the last flowers to die because they were under the tree. I’m disappointed that they are dying so early. If you have a suggestion as to what might have happened this year, I’d appreciate it. Thanks!
Hi Mindy- sounds like they have the powdery mildew….there’s really nothing you can do except try another moving them to another area. The disease overwinters in the soil…however if we have a really cold winter it could go away…Thanks for your response….if you would like a free flat in the 2014 season to try somewhere else on your property show us your ID…as our way of saying thanks for telling us how your impatiens fared.
My impatiens this year were excellent and are going strong. Actually they are the biggest and prettiest I’ve ever had. No problems whatsoever with mine.
That’s great! Thanks for your reply. Come in and show us your ID in our 2014 season for a FREE flat of impatiens.
